GBS "Garrett" Research Fellowships

The Garrett B. Smith Foundation has funded the following eleven Fellows in hospitals around the country.  To learn more details about the three current Fellows' research projects, please click on their name.

Current Garrett Fellows

Dr. Charles Roberts, M.D., Ph. D. (GBS Fellow 2005 - present) – currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Sandra Ryeom, Ph.D. (GBS Fellow 2010 - present) – currently an Assistant Professor at the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institure, Department of Cancer Biology, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Children’s Hospital, Boston – Folkman Angiogenesis Institute

– Dr. Philip Linden, M.D. (GBS Fellow 1995–1997) – currently an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School and a thoracic surgeon at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
– Dr. Kenneth LaMontagne, Ph.D. (GBS Fellow 1998–2000) – currently a Senior Scientist for Growth Factors (Biologics) and Cancer Therapeutics (Small-Molecules) for Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development.
– Dr. Jennifer Marler, M.D. (GBS Fellow 2000–2001) – formerly an Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and a pediatric surgeon in the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Children’s Hospital Boston.
– Dr. Mark Puder, M.D., Ph.D. (GBS Fellow 2001–2003) – currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and a pediatric surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Children’s Hospital Boston.
- Dr. Sandra Ryeom, Ph.D. (GBS Fellow 2005 - 2008) - formerly a research associate in the Vascular Biology Program at Children's Hospital and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

Children’s Hospital, Michigan – Karmanos Cancer Center

– Dr. Steven Abella (GBS Fellow 1999–2001) – currently a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.

New York University Medical Center – Hassenfeld Children’s Center
 

– Dr. Carrie Brownstein (GBS Fellow 2002–2003) – currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University.

– Dr. Naomi Moskowitz, M.D. (GBS Fellow 2004–2006) – currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY.

Weill Cornell Medical College

– Dr. Marianna Papaspyridonos (GBS Fellow 2008 –2009) – currently a research scientist at MedImmune In Cambridge, United Kingdom.
